World Bank’s VentureOut Challenge offers $10,000 seed capital to Caribbean mobile app developers

Mobile app developers from Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica can win US$10,000 in seed capital through an initiative of the World Bank’s infoDev programme.

Mobile app entrepreneurs from the two countries are invited to join their counterparts from Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Europe to participate in the new initiative to take their apps to the world.

Called VentureOutChallenge, the global programme aims to help hundreds of mobile entrepreneurs through hands-on training, virtual learning opportunities, mentorship, international exposure, and seed funding.

Entrepreneurs will come from 33 countries via the entrepreneurial ecosystems developed by eight local partners or ‘enablers’. Enterprise Hub, a local business support agency that works with innovative ventures, is the designated enabler for Trinidad and Tobago. ConnectiMass, producers of Kingston BETA Tech Community Meetup are the Jamaican community partner.

Enterprise Hub will be hosting an outreach event for interested developers Block 1, Room 101, Faculty of Engineering, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus from 10 am to 12 noon.

The competition application deadline is Monday 9 September.

The top 12 entrepreneurs from the competition will meet in Moldova on October 30-31 for a pitching exposition to compete for US$10,000 in seed funding.

One selected entrepreneur will also be attending TechCrunch’s Disrupt Europe event in Berlin this October 26-29, 2013.
